OUR STORY

Learn about us, and whether we are a right fit for you.

Pine to Palm Resort Park celebrated it’s “Grand Opening” in December of 1970. Originally a tomato field, the property was purchased by a group of Canadians from Swan River, Manitoba, who saw an opportunity to create a place where northerners could come and enjoy a warm winter. Our residents are primarily “Winter Texans”.

We are shareholder owned and operated with all homeowners, having purchased 7 shares, participating in operational decision-making. Shares are refundable upon leaving the Park. All profits are reinvested into the Park for maintenance, new projects and beautification. This process creates a sense of ownership and community. We are a pet free park.

Our activities are organized by a volunteer set of directors who arrange activities like cards, tours, sports, dances and entertainment. Each Monday morning, everyone is invited to enjoy a cup of coffee, visit with friends and hear all the latest news and information related to upcoming park activities.

You would be welcome to join our residents who make turbans for those with cancer either sharing them locally or sending them to various communities in the US and Canada. Some make quilts and distribute them to local families while our church congregation supports a local food bank. At Christmas, we assist the local police and fire departments collecting toys for children and a number of residents help local children to pursue their education.

Volunteer groups organize and prepare meals on Mondays and most Saturdays during the winter season which bring together those who wish to enjoy great food, good company and a chance to meet new friends. Regular dances with outstanding local bands will bring back fond memories of your rock and roll days or get you two-stepping  to country favorites.  As well, karaoke provides an opportunity to entertain an always appreciative audience.

During the winter season, there are so many activities going on in the park that a calendar of events is distributed.  If you are looking to learn something new, instruction for watercolor painting, stained glass, shuffleboard, pickleball, Spanish, mahjong, line dancing and card games are available. Daily activities include pool fitness, yoga and “Bone Building”.  Pick up games of pickleball, shuffleboard, billiards or horseshoes happen throughout the day and evening.

Aside from in-park activities, there is a wide choice of opportunities outside of the Park such as golf, old timers ice hockey, tennis, top caliber Friday night high school football, professional soccer and Viper basketball, University baseball games, local cultural events, rodeos and  BBQ cook-offs. Reasonably priced cruises to the Caribbean and Panama Canal are available out of Galveston which is approximately a 6 hour drive from the Park.

Inter-park tournaments are organized for shuffleboard, pickleball and billiards. Our baseball team competes in a local league on Tuesdays and Thursdays and are keenly supported by a large and loyal group of resident fans.

If you’d just like some time to rest and relax, our pool and hot tub are just for you. Days at the beach at South Padre Island are always a treat with its world famous beaches or you may want to try out some deep sea fishing. Boca Chica, near Brownsville, is a wonderfully long beach which is virtually untouched and secluded. A visit to Nuevo Progresso, Mexico is just 10 minutes down the road and begins with a walk across the “International Bridge” and over the Rio Grande River. A host of restaurants feature authentic Mexican cuisine, street vendors offer their wares and unique shops greet you down the main street.

Finally, after a busy day, there is nothing better on a lovely, warm evening than a walk under Texas skies. As the song says,” The stars at night are big and bright, deep in the heart of Texas” and we can certainly attest to that.
